Expedited Jury Trials (EJT) - What You Need to Know
(large download - 370MB)

The Expedited Jury Trial Act (AB2284) permits cases to be heard with an eight-member jury, with limited peremptory challenges and a goal of concluding the case in one day. Verdicts are binding and post-trial motions and appeals are strictly limited. The option will apply to all civil cases, regardless of size. No practitioner can afford to miss this detailed discussion of the proposed rules and statutes, as clients, and insurers will be asking: Can we use the EJT process for this case? Should we? Hear from the judge and lawyers who actually were involved in drafting the rules and bill. The new law is supported by the plaintiffs bar, defense bar, judges and legislators. It is expected to be signed by the governor this month, and will take effect on January 1, 2011.
